Though some opportunities like grant funding and patient programs through enzyme pharmaceutical companies exist, they were often challenging for patients to use, didn’t qualify for, didn’t necessarily match the patients’ needs, and increased the already heavy treatment burden that comes with the territory of having a rare disease.
This meant that often those in need just went without, causing vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition.
In 2020, James Colligan stepped in to change this, bringing 13 years of rare disease pharmaceutical experience & 3 years of specialty pharmacy experience to the table. He helped over 3000 individuals receive the nutritional support they needed through managing grant-funded nutritional supplements and vitamins through the Healthwell Foundation vitamin and supplement grants.
In 2026, he partnered up with Carla Burke, a Dietitian with 6 years of experience with rare disease and 11 years of supplement expertise to bridge healthcare centers to our program. Our goal is to take some of the burden of rare disease off patients and caregivers by helping them access vital nutritional vitamins and supplements, by helping to utilize pharmaceutical patient programs, by accessing grant-funded nutritional supplements without having to wait for reimbursement, by managing grant funding, and by working with your medical care team to verify you are receiving the right vitamins and supplements for you. We will continue to expand the scope of benefits to more individuals and rare diseases.
For years, there has been a huge gap between the vitamins and supplements individuals needed to maintain health and patients’ ability to receive them.
